In 1974 an accident at the Mizushima Oil Refinery resulted in leakage of heavy oil from a storage tank. The oil slick was widely dispersed, and resulted in extensive damage and loss to local fisheries. As a boy, I was very shocked to hear that several decades ahead there would be no fish living in Seto Inland Sea. But the power of the nature was stronger than we thought. The Sea became cleaner and cleaner year by year. On the other hand, we were in the midst of the "rapid economic growth." The sewage water from the households and factories polluted the Sea. Can we still enjoy the richness of the Seto Inland Sea again?
